Cycling in Asia is growing at a healthy rate each year, with South Korea seeing an unprecedented boom in bike sales, up 10% in 2014 from 2013.
The racing scene there too gets stronger with each passing season and there are some very handy riders emerging and going on to do well on the UCI Asia Tour circuit.
I remember racing in the UCI 2.2 Tour of Korea in 2012 where, when the Harley Davidson-powered outriders weren't crashing their massive machines into the peloton, the Korean teams were riding en masse to be sure no foreign rider won the race.
Pretty impressive display of two-wheeled patriotism that was!
At the recent Taipei Bike Show the number of Korean distributors at the BLKTEC booth where I was stationed was way up on the year before.
Looks like it's still ka-ching ka-ching for the bike shops over there.
